AMERICAN PSYCHO 2
(Entertainment In Video VHS), aka American Psycho 2: All-American Girl
Head Count:
Tag-line: 'Angrier. Deadlier. Sexier' (UK). Body Count: Ten. All deprived of life by our anti-heroine, an 18-year-old who calls herself Rachael Newman and is played by Mila Kundis. Cutting Remarks: Unsuspecting video renters no doubt had a shock when the first film's central character Patrick Bateman is murdered in the first five minutes of this sequel. The suave ladykiller - who is most certainly not played by Christian Bale - is offed by Newman as a little girl, as she relates on her perky narration. Once this thin connection to American Psycho has been established, the real story develops: of a murderous student who will stop at nothing to rise through the ranks of her college join the FBI. So she starts bumping off other contenders for the job of Teaching Assistant to criminologist Robert Starkman (played by William Shatner). One of the film's weakest elements is that her victims don't appear to be missed in the slightest, and at no point does anybody find it strange that the principle candidates for the TA job are disappearing. Kundis does a good job as Newman, blending sexuality with a sharp performance, although there are often telltale signs of the film's breakneck 20-day shoot. The 'Two Years Later' coda is also ludicrous. But what would be a slasher sequel be without one of those? Despite its critical panning, American Psycho 2... could have been far worse. Most Memorable Demise: One fella getting strangled with a condom. Which is surely impossible, no matter how safe it is. Look Out For: William Shatner saying "f**king". Don't see that every day. Killer Quote: "Is it just me, or is there unspoken sexual tension between us?" - the character destined for a tight rubber necklace DVD Details: The extras consist of a trailer. Great. Release Dates: Straight to video. US: June 18, 2002. UK: April 22, 2002. [Reviews Menu] [Home] © Copyright Slasherama 2002-present |
