[Check it out at Amazon.co.uk] BRONX WARRIORS 2 (Vipco)

Director: Enzo G. Castellari

Hacktors: Mark Gregory, Henry Silva, Giancarlo Prete

Rating: Rating: four out of five

Tag-line: 'They're blasting back, in a bloody battle for the Bronx!' - could there be any more 'b's in that one?

Death Toll: It's hard to keep track, but I made it 172. Hey, someone's gotta do it.

Cutting Remarks: Say what you like about Vipco and the comparative lack of extras found on their discs, but they do bring some great movies back from the dead - titles that few other companies would bother with. This has always been one of my favourite Italian shoot-em-ups, not least because it features Henry Silva, a man with a face so evil that he was typecast the day he was born. Silva is great here as Floyd Wrangler, the man commissioned to clear the Bronx of street-dwelling scum.
Bronx Warriors 2 is far more action-packed than the slower-paced Bronx Warriors and, as you can see from the above body count, is incredibly violent. There's not much in way of gore, strictly speaking, but if you want death by bullet, flame-thrower or grenade, it's here in spades. As our lanky hero Trash (Gregory, who also appeared in the Thunder trilogy as a Rambo-style misfit) and mercenary Strike (Prete, aka Timothy Brent, who had appeared a couple of years earlier in The New Barbarians) fight against the GC Corporation's plan to disinfest their home, people start dropping like flies.
Bronx Warriors 2 often plays like a souped-up episode of The A-Team, the dubbed dialogue can make little sense at all and often the movie is downright clumsy. But Castellari's obvious enthusiasm for relentless action, along with Silva's comical malevolence means that it's never less than fun.

Most Memorable Demise: When Strike uses a shotgun butt to smash in the helmet visor, and face, of a Disinfestor. Very gory. In fact, this scene was trimmed on the original UK Entertainment In Video rental release.

Look Out For: A strange moment when Silva's dubbing seems to have been recorded by another actor. The sentence begins, 'Because we're leading them into a trap...'

Killer Quote: "No sugar, you idiot! ... it makes me CRAZY!" - Floyd Wrangler loses it over a cup of coffee.

DVD Details: The sound may be in mono, but it's not too bad at all and the print is certainly superior to that EIV release. The only extras here, besides the usual Vipco trailers, are some filmographies (better than a poke in the eye) and a rather small stills gallery.

Release Date: Out now in the UK.
