CUT-THROAT aka Scared (2002)
Director: Keith Walley Hacktors: Luciano Saber, Kate Norby, Raquel Baldwin Rating: Cutting Remarks: The tag-line for this one is 'No Pity, No Mercy'. I'll bear that in mind while slamming this complete and utter waste of time. Postmodern slasher movies are, ironically enough, so old now, yet these film-makers clearly felt there was something more to be done with the format. There might well be, but this ain't it. This is an embarrassing Scream wannabe, which even references Scream, in an attempt to become even more postmodern. Oh sweet Jesus... The storyline here is a hand-me-down from the worthy Aussie flick Cut (2000) and the absolutely terrible Final Stab aka Final Scream (2001). A slasher movie production is plagued by murders, committed by - guess what? - someone wearing THE SAME MASK AS THE MOVIE'S KILLER! So, it's like a movie within a movie, do you see? Great work, fellas, great work. The acting ranges from the hilariously flat (Brad Lockerman as Detective Hartley) to the painfully over-cooked (Corey Almeida as the film-within-a-film's director Hamlin), with a whole lotta nothing in between. The male lead, Luciano Saber, is no great acting shakes, to say the least. But still - he co-wrote Cut-Throat's script, and in the movie he plays the screenwriter of a slasher movie! How ingenious! What a hoot! WATCH as everybody disappears up their own ass! I'm starting to feel better now. Want some more reasons never to watch Cut-Throat? There's next-to-no gore and the script sucks moose-cock: for instance, there are initially two known murders on the set, yet several times only one is referred to. The ending becomes hilariously confusing, as various characters stalk each other, wearing masks, leading to a ridiculous showdown. Absolute rubbish. See? No pity. No mercy... DVD Extras: On this Shadow Entertainment release, just a bunch of trailers for other equally dodgy-looking flicks. Release Date: Out now in the US. [Reviews Menu] © Copyright Slasherama 2002-present |
