[IMAGE: 'Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives', UK DVD sleeve] FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES (Paramount Home Entertainment UK)

Head Count: Rating: four out of five

Tag-line: None on this release. The old rental video, however, bore the legend 'Nothing This Evil Ever Dies'.

Death Toll: Eighteen. Not too shabby for Mr Voorhees.

Cutting Remarks: Thank God, the real Jason is back - and this time he's supernatural! 'Part VI' opens with Tommy Jarvis - this time played by 'Return Of The Living Dead''s Thom Mathews - digging Jason up with the intention of making sure he's fully dead. Needless to say, he fails in this pursuit, because a worm-faced Jason is back up and killing again before you say, 'Let's get outta here!'. Strangely, the local sheriff doesn't believe Tommy when he insists that Jason's back from the grave...
Writer/director Tom 'One Dark Night' McLoughlin clearly approached this one with a fairly light heart, as there are several moments when the movie seems to be making fun of itself. The humour is generally welcome, apart from a couple of embarrassingly over-played moments. Having said that - and despite the fact that this new uncut release bears a '15' certificate - there's plenty of violence going on here, with Jason's temper not having abated one little bit during his time six feet under.
'... Jason Lives' is a lot of fun, ending the 'Tommy Jarvis' trilogy and setting the stage for the excellent 'Part VII: The New Blood'.

Most Memorable Demise: Poor Cissy, who gets her head twisted around 180 degrees.

Look Out For: The surreal moment when a graveyard caretaker looks straight into the camera and says, "Some folks have a strange idea of entertainment".

Killer Quote: "I've seen enough horror movies to know that any weirdo wearing a mask is never friendly" - dead-meat character Elizabeth utters some pre-'Scream' self-referentialism.

DVD Details: Bare bones once again, apart from the quality of DVD... and a rather cool teaser trailer which features specially-shot graveyard footage.

Release Date: Out now.
